Races of TCI
Ten different distinct races exist within the TCI universe, each of which has its own unique appearance, home planet, and culture.
Draekon
Jakob Koss
Appearance:
The Draekon people have deathly-pale skin, jet-black hair, and dark blue pupils which rest within light blue scleras.
Home Planet:
Oballe – a snowy, tundra-covered planet where winters last years and the sun shines for only a third of the day.
Extra Information:
The Draekons possess a versatile neon purple energy known locally as ‘Shaz’ which they can spontaneously produce from their hands in the form of everything from flames to slime.
The Draekon people have an intense historical rivalry with the Alavites, who they once shared a planet with.
Alavite
Yeuma Peric
Appearance:
The Alavites have parchment-colored skin, blonde hair, and golden pupils.
Home Planet:
Alavonia – a planet whose stretches of flat plains and long, winding rivers serve as natural barriers between its many beautiful, sprawling cities.
Extra Information:
The Alavites loudly and enthusiastically worship Alavon Acivorai, an ancient and beloved king of their people who was tragically killed over two millennia ago.
Though historically peaceful outside of the occasional conflict with the Draekons, the theocratic Alavites have grown exponentially more blood thirsty and ambitious under the rule of Olivio X, the latest Hand of Alavon.
Udul
Zhaden Karuk
Appearance:
The amphibious Udul people are known for their blue and scaly skin, webbed hands and feet, gills, and the small rhino-like horn in the center of their foreheads. They are also completely hairless, sport black pupils, and are the only race capable of breathing and seeing clearly underwater without external aid.
Home Planet:
Cha-leh – a landless planet covered entirely in a dark-blue sea where the bright dots of the Uduls’ underwater glass dome cities light up the ocean by night.
Extra Information:
The Udulic navy is the strongest and most feared in the galaxy. Attempting to fight them on the water is a mistake many only get to make once.
A strongly patriotic people, they worship their beloved Salt Maiden from beneath the violent waves.
The Uduls share ninety-five percent of their DNA with the Dom’Rai, who they have fought three major wars against.
Joxun
Marijah Jhael
Appearance:
The Joxun people sport an olive complexion, along with dark brown hair and eyes.
Home Planet:
Pariso – a forested planet once considered the most beautiful and bountiful in the galaxy which now faces a desperate life-or-death struggle against an ever-encroaching desert, which threatens to choke the very life out of it.
Extra Information:
Joxuns believe in the inherent intellectual superiority of the female sex and have structured their society around this concept.
Their women occupy every position of significant power and influence on the planet while the men are assigned low-paying manual labor roles following their mandatory years of military service, which they take on happily.
Sex plays a major role in Joxun culture. This has led their people to become somewhat infamous for their promiscuity, which has perhaps played a significant role in placing their population at sixteen billion, by far the largest in the galaxy.
Ayr
Tom Ezekiel
Appearance:
Ayrs have a light complexion, dark blonde hair, and light blue pupils.
Home Planet:
Ayr-Groh – a planet that began as an uninhabitable gas giant, the Ayr capital now houses hundreds of massive cities on its floating metallic platforms.
Extra Information:
The Ayr people are stereotyped as being one of the smartest races in the galaxy. When off their homeworld, they rely on a specialized set of goggles known as a virix to be able to see clearly.
Wealth inequality is rampant on Ayr-Groh, leading to large, pristine, and skyscraper-filled metropolises such as Ayr-Groh City sitting directly adjacent to run-down zones such as the blue-collar Steel Grotto and the crime-ridden Trax Town.
Zantavi
Robert Josso
Appearance:
The Zantavi are known for their uniquely dark skin tone, curly ghost-white hair, and light pink pupils.
Home Planet:
Saraii – a planet coated in a suffocating and endless desert that nearly all races aside from its native population do their best to avoid.
Extra Information:
Though relatively calm and quiet by day, Saraii boasts a large and extensive network of black markets by night that are among the most lucrative in the galaxy.
The planet’s illegal drug and sex trades are second only to the neutral, anarchic world of Norann.
Dom’Rai
Bergon M’og
Appearance:
The Dom’Rai are nearly impossible to mistake with their ashy, maroon skin, blood-red pupils, and the pair of large ram-like horns in the center of their forehead.
They can withstand significantly hotter temperatures than any other race.
Home Planet:
V’otarr – a planet whose volcanic activity and frequent earthquakes make it among the most unstable in the galaxy. The heat on the surface is so intense that even the Dom’Rai themselves are forced to live within the planet’s many large craters, where the temperature is considerably lower.
Extra Information:
A historically warlike and tribal people, Dom’Rai are typically (and inaccurately) stereotyped as being intellectually inferior to most other races.
They are also thought to have much shorter tempers and be more easily prone to violence.
They are the only known race to still actively enslave its own kind.
Quexian
Oslo
Appearance:
The reclusive Quexians are known for their gray skin, red hair, and light gray pupils.
Home Planet:
Galaros – an impossibly frigid and mountainous planet with temperatures that can drop hundreds of degrees below freezing.
The wily Quexian people live deep below its surface in a large and intricate network of connected tunnel cities.
Extra Information:
Quexians are renowned for their natural stealthiness. Many of the most infamous and sought-after assassins and hitmen in galactic history have come from their ranks.
Quexians are also the only race to not utilize surnames, believing them to tie an individual too closely to their parents, therefore stripping away their individuality and agency.
Erub
Sheressa Droc
Appearance:
The Erub people’s brilliant green eyes are easily their most distinguishing feature. They normally sport tan skin and dark brown hair.
Home Planet:
Erub – a tropical planet dotted in islands whose beautiful emerald green waters mask a brutal and bloody history.
Extra information:
The Erub people are among the most fiercely nationalistic in the galaxy. They have a proven track record of being difficult for a government to control when an unfavorable law is passed or an unpopular (albeit necessary) decision is made.
Unfortunately, this has led to a long history of violent and chaotic instability that has seen more changes in power than any other developed nation in the galaxy.
Carine
Appearance:
The Carine people are perhaps the most extreme outlier of the galactic races, having a wolf-like appearance, sharp claws and teeth, and coats of fur that range from black to brown to white.
They can (and normally do) stand on two legs, but drop on all fours to run, which they do far faster than any other race.
Home Planet:
Feralla - a forest planet overrun by trees the size of skyscrapers. It is within the very trunks of these behemoths that the Carine make their homes.
Extra Information:
A historically oppressed and isolated people, the Carine are misunderstood and feared by many due to their unusual and feral appearance. It is for this same reason that they are frequently underestimated in combat, which has led to the brutal deaths of many would-be invaders.
The Carine’s fight to be recognized as an intelligent, sentient race has spanned many generations.
Notes on Hybrid Races
While interracial individuals do exist, they form less than 5% of a galactic population with a long history of segregation and isolation.
All races have been known to be capable of cross-breeding with the exception of Draekons (No Documented Cases) and Carine (Incompatible DNA Model).
The most common Hybrid race is the purple-skinned Udom : the result of a pairing between a Dom’Rai and Udul.
Uduls and Dom’Rai are only capable of bearing interracial children with one another.
Most mixed-race individuals face various degrees of discrimination or marginalization in almost every society, as an estimated 8 out of every 10 hybrids are conceived as a result of wartime rape.
